Early release of superannuation benefits (Feb 2018)
Women's Legal Services Australia has made a submission to the Treasury's review of early release of superannuation benefits under compassionate and financial hardship grounds and for victims of crime compensation. In this submission we support the early release of superannuation in circumstances of family violence as a last resort, noting the competing policy concerns of women's finanacial recovery from family violence, the superannuation gap for women and women's poverty in later life. WLSA also emphasises the ongoing responsibility of state and federal governments to meet the needs of women and children escaping family violence through the provision of adequate housing, health, social security, legal and other services.
